Kangaroo Show - Australia-driving from Sydney to Thredbo
Posted by on
Driving through Australia in search of snow….yes, snow in Australia! We had to see it to believe it. The drive was very interesting. There were wild kangaroos everywhere…. live and dead ones unfortunately. It was a bit morbid.. after seeing one too many “slow” kangaroos, we had to find a way to cope with the mini roadside horror scene. So Jason and I played a friendly game of “Name that roadkill”. There was everything from kangaroos, wallabees, possums (looked like a koala bear) and even a very large deer….. Maybe the next reality show…?
Apart from the roadside scene–We couldn’t get over the fact that there were so many wild kangaroos. There was a lot of open land with the occasional cattle and sheep heard. We even saw kangaroos hanging out with the cows, but never with the sheep… Not sure what this was about…. Rumor has it that the sheep are a bit anti-social : )
We arrived into the ski town of Thredbo at night. After some searching and walking in the cold rain and snow mixed, we found our hotel and a place for dinner. Jason ordered the special–kangaroo!! I couldn’t believe it… but then considering our roadside experience–it made sense. I consider myself to be adventurous trying new foods… But, this time I had to pass… It did look surprisingly good; like a very thick, tender, lean steak.
After a long day of driving, we decided to put the girls to bed and have some “us” time. There was a small pub in the lobby of our hotel, so we headed down… a musician was singing in the corner and about ten other people were dancing, singing and enjoying the cozy warm ambience. We met a very fashionable girl and introduced her to “Snow Sugar” — she loved the company, image and vision and she worked for a local boutique! So we set up a meeting the next day to discuss more. It was a great night! Everyone was in great spirits and we consumed a lot of them too. Jason and I danced and celebrated our life and big adventure together that night!! It was amazing… Almost as though it had just finally sunk in that we were “off”, not just physically but mentally, for one whole year to explore and enjoy everything there is to explore and enjoy with this wonderful beautiful world with our wonderful beautiful family….
